Why Zuck's "Metaverse" is way too confusing!
The word that best describes it is that it is going to be a second world, not real but a 3-dimensional virtual world. You might have come across augmented reality, and virtual reality, but Metaverse is going to take this to the next level. As you might have already guessed, "Metaverse" is just a combination of the two words "Meta" and "Universe", whose origin is from a science fiction novel (namely "Snow Crash") from 1992. And it has also become a buzzword, increasing its popularity after Facebook's initiative though it already existed earlier. With all these thoughts in mind, let's dive into the Metaverse.

In this world of Metaverse, as Meta says, you are going to be displayed as an avatar but not a real person. You can do many things you do in real life, like working, playing, shopping, and socializing. You can look what you want to look like. And if you're thinking about the currency, well, it is gonna help NFTs and Cryptocurrency to take over the entire world.
In 2019, this company Meta, at that time Facebook, launched its VR headset Facebook Horizon. And now they also have Quest 2, specially designed for the Metaverse. They describe this big leap as "Hundreds of hit games, one-of-a-kind experiences, live events, new ways to stay fit and a growing community of users await you on Quest 2."

If that surprises you, Meta is also working to take AR and smart glasses to the next level, and they say they are creating the future of humanity. And these things are already going on! They are working collaboratively with BYJU'S, Coursera, and other ed-tech brands to aware people of the Metaverse.
And yeah, this is going to help in the development of education and technology at the same time, there are a few drawbacks of this Metaverse.

Talking about Privacy. If people do everything on the Metaverse, all of their info is also going to be in the Metaverse. And there are not a few, but a huge number of concerns regarding privacy in the Metaverse.
And then the next concern. According to Xoogler Eric Schmidt, “All of the people who talk about metaverses are talking about worlds that are more satisfying than the current world—you’re richer, more handsome, more beautiful, more powerful, faster.” Schmidt also mentions that the benefits that a metaverse has over the real world may lead people to forsake the world that exists in favor of a digital utopia, which, in his opinion, may not be the best thing for human society.
Tech YouTuber Arun Rupesh Maini (@Mrwhosetheboss) mentions, "I think we need to talk about this - The Metaverse is going to change our entire lives - this is what it means for us."
Here comes the third problem, user addiction, and problematic social media use. According to Wikipedia, "Internet addiction disorder, social media, and video game addiction can have mental and physical repercussions over a prolonged period of time, such as depression, anxiety, and various other harms related to having a sedentary lifestyle such as an increased risk for obesity and cardiovascular disease."
Though we know many things about Metaverse, the entire image of it is not clear. Those blurs and mosaics will be gradually be clear and hence we can get the complete idea of the Metaverse. Subscribe to our newsletter lineup and we'll send you awesome tech news to your email!
